Marble & Stone Restoration
Marchbanks Stone Restoration refinishes marble, granite and travertine across Sacramento, El Dorado Hills, Granite Bay, Loomis and Folsom. Jordan Marchbanks is the owner-operator — this is a family business he took over, and as he puts it, his last name is on the truck and he is not about to give himself a bad name.
Etching is the number one call
More people ring about etching than anything else, and most of them do not know that is what they are looking at. Marble, limestone and travertine are calcium based. Anything acidic — lemon, wine, vinegar, tomato, most household cleaners — dissolves the polished surface where it lands and leaves a dull mark. It is not a stain and it will not clean off. It has to be refinished out of the stone.
What Sacramento does to stone
- Century-old houses. The Fab 40s and the older neighbourhoods around them are full of original stone and tile that has had a hundred years of use. Restoration there is about respecting what is already there, not making it look new-built.
- Constant remodelling. Sacramento is in a long remodel boom, and a great deal of brand-new stone is damaged during construction — grout haze, scratches from other trades, chips at the edges before the owners ever use the kitchen.
- Hard water. Mineral-heavy supply leaves scale in showers and rings around sinks and faucets that ordinary cleaning will not shift.
- New stone with no protection. Marble goes in, nobody explains what acid does to it, and within a year the island is covered in rings.
How the job actually runs
Jordan’s answer to how he works starts before any stone is touched:
- The phone gets answered, and clients get a reply when they were told they would.
- A timely estimate rather than a vague promise to get back to you.
- Arriving on time, usually early.
- Protecting the floors and areas that are not being worked on before anything starts.
- For polishing marble: resin diamonds, worked thoroughly through the full sequence of grits — no skipping steps to save time, because skipped grits are exactly why a floor comes out hazy or scratched.
- Showing the client how to maintain the finish afterwards, so the work lasts.
Floor resurfacing and lippage
Two things Marchbanks does that most companies in the area do not: resurfacing floors properly, and grinding lippage — the uneven tile edges you catch a toe on — down to a genuinely flat plane. That is a grinding job, not a cleaning one, and it takes the right equipment and someone who knows how to run it. Local competitors have been known to send the difficult marble jobs, including floors another company has already damaged, in Jordan’s direction.
Stone, training and equipment
Marble, granite and travertine are the speciality. Quartz is politely declined. MORE® AntiEtch®® certified since 2019, MB Stone Pro trained, running an El Diablo truck mount.
